Wines are known to be a staple in most gatherings and special events. People get to relax while sipping a glass of a good wine. Italian wines, especially Tuscany wines, are a usual favorite.

Tuscany wine is named after the Italian region Tuscany it was made from. This wine is produced in Tuscany for several centuries already. It is widely available to most establishments, from all sorts of restaurants to liquor stores. The demand for this wine may perhaps be contributed to the quality produced from the intense efforts of Tuscan winemakers.

Here are some fast facts about several Tuscany wines most people do not know.

Among the popular Tuscany wines is the Super Tuscan wine. This wine is called such due to the inventive blending of varied grape varieties, an unconventional creation of other Tuscan wines.

There are a number of wine zones in Tuscany. Each zone has specific characteristics that have contributed to the distinct tastes each Tuscany wine beholds. The top three Tuscany wine zones are Bolgheri, Chianti Classico and Montalcino.

The Bolgheri wine zone is located in west Tuscany. Super Tuscan wines Sassacaia and Tignanello have originated in this wine zone. The Bolgheri wine zone is also popular for specializing production of red Tuscany wines. These red Tuscans are complete or selected blends of Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties.

The Chianti Classico wine zone is at the heart of central Tuscany. The Chianti Classico wines are produced from the red Sangiovese grape variety. Other varieties of red Sangiovese-based Chianti Classico wines are blended with the grape varieties of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Canaiolo. The most distinct feature of Chianti Classico wines is that these are full-tasting bold wines. They could balance out the richness of well-seasoned foods. The once low-cost Chianti wines, which were commonly associated to come in straw baskets, have improved in quality and taste.

The Montalcino wine is at Tuscany’s Siena area. The most well-known product of this region is the Brunello di Montalcino Tuscany wine. This red wine is made from Sangiovese grapes. Each bottle of Brunello goes through a well-defined aging process. It is usually aged not lesser than four years, and another two years in oak barrels. This perfectly-aged wine is best paired with heavy dishes like steak and full-flavored cheeses.

There are other Tuscany wines crowding several markets worldwide. Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is a full-bodied red wine. Like Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile is made from the Sangiovese red grape variety.
